Hello Class and
Professor!
Complete the
Meeting Aesclepius mp3 (located in the Doc Sharing area). Describe your
meditative practices for the week and discuss the experience. Explain how
mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or
spiritual wellness. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life
to foster greater health and wellness?
Through
completing the Meeting Aesclepius mp3 my
meditative practice for this week was a little bit off because I was finding it
difficult for me to find inner balance and mind focus due to having an
abnormally busier schedule than usual. I did engage in meditating and doing
deep breathing each day, but only was able to find time to engage in my yoga 3
days this week and I noticed that not doing yoga more than the 3 days really
through me off schedule. I have felt SO overwhelmed lately especially this
week! My mind, body and soul are feeling very scrambled and I am mentally
barley above water. Through feeling this way, I am not aware of what I can
commit to in different areas of my life which is not much. I found through this
past week that I need to cut things out of my life and focus on ME, because I
feel not well. As I mentioned, my mindfulness/meditation has helped this past
week but I feel very off balance and need to refocus. Meditating helps me to
calm my mind and decrease my anxiety and as soon as I am done writing this I
will be engaging in my meditation practice for 1 hour before bed as it helps me
to sleep and I think that is exactly
what I need right now. I need to sleep a good 7-8 hours solid without waking
and that NEVER happens but my mind and body are just EXHAUSTED and I need to
take better care of myself and listen to my body and attend to MY needs more
then I have been. I am ALL about increasing my health and wellness through the
mind-body practices that I engage in and believe that without my meditation and
yoga I feel lost. They help me to be who I am meant to be and fully experience
life to the fullest, but I am just off right now but I am hopeful for the days
to come as I will be attempting to get
some long hours of sleep shortly here and pray that I feel better in the
morning.
Describe the
saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself"
(p.477).
My understanding
of this saying is that I cannot lead another to wellness if I myself have not experienced
and practice wellness myself.
How does this
apply to the health and wellness professional?
This applies to the
health and wellness professional in the simple fact that one (myself) cannot
help another attain holistic wellness if I myself am not well or living and
breathing health and wellness. It is like preaching to the choir so to speak.
That is why we must live, eat and breath wellness in all aspects of our lives
so that first we are well, experience wellness ourselves, continue to live this
way and help others get to that beautiful place in their lives as well, but it
all starts with “US” and we must be the people that we claim to be and lead by
example.
Do you have an
obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically,
physically, and spiritually? Why or why not?
Currently I do
feel an obligation to help my clients develop holistically wellness because of
being a yoga instructor. Through my practice I guide others to center them and
find that inner peace we all search for at the same time helping them attain
their flexibility and fitness goals as well. My main focus though is their
inner wellness and helping guide my clients to experience that bliss and centered
and balance within themselves.
How can you
implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life?
I can implement psychological
and spiritual growth in my personal life by not taking on more than I can
handle, listening to my mind-body and soul and attending to my needs so that I
can attend and assist others, meditating each day and practicing my yoga each
and every day. No excuses!!!! That is my goal for this week.
I hope that you
all have a wonderful and blissful week and I look forward to hearing from you!
May love,
passion, health and wellness, and internal balance be with you all today and
the future days to come.
Namaste

Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading your DB and blog posts every week. I can sense how frustrated and stressed you have been this week. I have felt the same way in the past. I have a feeling it is because you spend most your days doing for others and maybe even working too many hours. I love what I do, but when I was training at a gym I trained sometimes ten hours. I did not recognize how unhealthy it was for my mind, body, and spirit until I quit and began spending time on my own well-being. I was happy to read you are going to tend to your needs. I think many of us in the fitness/wellness industry forget to take care of ourselves. We think we resilient, or at least I did. Enjoy taking time out for YOU this week. I look forward to hearing about a better week next week! :-)

Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteReading your blog, I could almost feel your tense and overwhelming emotions permeating through your words. Meditation and mindfulness will no doubt bring you some inner peace and tranquility, which is exactly what you need right now! I am currently going through a move and my head is in a million places, so I am finding meditition to be harder than normal. The past two days I haven't been able to focus and it is driving me insane! I feel your pain... somewhat.
Hang in there! Hopefully, your Megan time! :)
Angela
Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteAre you feeling better today? I hope so. While I was reading your blog this week, I thought what comes first.....negative health leads to negative emotions or does negative emotions lead to negative health? (The chicken or the egg?). Seems like your week"s stressors bringing you down emotionally has lead to your health feeling down as well. I completely understand how chaotic life can be and leaves you feeling overwhelmed. My advise- practice the witnessing mind, step back and observe the obstacles you are having and choose your response. It is so easy because its automatic without thought to just react to what's happening around us. Be strong and you can get through it! I applaud you for still taking time out to meditate and deep breath each day and finding some time for yoga too. It is awesome to take some time for You! One step at a time, set small goals to rid the chaos! Cutting things out is a great start!
Take care,
Kristine
Megan,
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that you are able to meditate and bring yourself "back together." I wish that I was able to just sit and breathe to feel like I was getting my thoughts and feelings all in order! I couldn't agree more with you on how you defined the "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" saying, and I think it makes perfect sense. Make sure you take that time to yourself each day to mentally recover and forget about all of the cluster or negative feelings you have all bottled up! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteI am notorious for taking on multiple projects at once, so I know what you mean by trying to not take on more than one can handle. Yoga is an unbelievable practice, a few years ago I didn't really see what the big deal was about yoga. Since then I have taken many classes, and it has worked very well as not only a stress reliever but as a way to calm my mind. My girlfriend has psoriasis, which can be caused by high amounts of stress and anxiety, Im introducing her to yoga this weekend. I am sure it will have a positive influence on her physically and psychologically.
